Leftover's Chili

One of my favorite things to do with leftover meat, veggies or both is to make a pot of chili. Tonight's batch was a mixture of leftover pork tenderloin, ground bison, a ripe tomato, onion and jalapenos. Just add beans and spices and you're good to go.

Some chopped red onion, chopped cilantro and fresh lime wedges make for great toppings...(and sour cream if you're not counting calories.)

And a side of jalapeno cornbread makes the meal complete.

So these photos are in reverse order, but they represent a very small portion of the wonderful time I had at Amy & Sean's wedding at Lake Tahoe. It was truly one of the best weekends and weddings I had experienced.

A person to tree scale photo- the trees were amazingly tall!

The Bijou House, aka hang out, aka the fun house!

This car was for sale...$7000. If I lived anywhere on the west coast then I would totally consider it. Very nice!

A family trip to Florida

DANA- yeah!!! This is in front of her mom's store in Englewood.

A view from our hotel room overlooking the beach- I could live here for the rest of my life...despite the locals.

My cousin Sonya and I...

Some fine Treasure Island architecture...

Scot looking out for sharks and pirates...

Our hotel's courtyard. Many of the Caribbian staff thought Kimber was a mysterious voodoo spirit...little did they know he was just a teenager filled with angst.

Another view from our hotel...

A fun night out with my aunt Margaret- balls of fun!

The most awesomest neon sign on Treasure Island, and my cousin Greg and I.

And here's a last look at the beach before we had to go back to normal life.

It was very hard adjusting to work. I would seriously consider moving down here- regardless of the hurricanes. Life is so laid back and easy and relaxing. I see now why people retire here. Maybe someday I will.

Here are a few more from my phone...bad quality though.

Stereolab pics

So here are a few pics from the DC Stereolab show. It was a great show, considering you could sense some tension onstage. It wasn't as good as the last show I saw of theirs- Ft. Worth, (2004 or 2005). But their music is so fabulous that they can nearly do no wrong.

Here's a video:

Tonight I'm off to see the Magnetic Fields....:)

Cindy McCain looks permanently stoned!

The speech from the first Stepford wife lady- IS a robot! And a horrible speaker (reader), and pronunciator.

Top 5 ridiculos statements by Cindy McCain (there could be others, I just caught these.)
1. Its time for the federal government to get our of our way!!
Ok- why would a person with this feeling about the federal government want to lead it? Who wants to work in a job that they hate? Does John McCain hate all the governing that he's been a part of?

2. Americans are the most generous people in history.
Oh come on!!! Generous? Any thing but. We use up more than our fair share of resources, we threaten others with violence and weapons (even our fellow citizens) and we are responsible for one of the largest genocides in world history that we know of- the original Americans. to scratch the surface.

3. In Banglidesh i found little children, wanted to take them home....and thats what i did. Isn't America blessed?
This is just creapy. She was walking down the street, saw a little girl and said I want one, what is she Veruca Salt?

4.From the beginning of time, women have always looked for a man based on what kind of father they'd be.
That's what you were looking for Cindy- don't speak for the rest of us. Plus the "beginning of time"?

5. I promise that I will help John everyday to strengthen our freedom.
With your toxic acid skin cream? Or with your billions of Budwiser stock?
(And how many DUIs is Cindy McCain responsible for? 3 million??)

A side note about Palin: So when did firing those who do not agree with you equate to shaking things up in Washington??
And if she has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined, then she has more than McCain- maybe she should run for president. Oh wait....no one VOTED FOR HER.

And who's the celebrity now- on the cover of People Mag - twice in a row?

When I was young, everyone wanted to be president!

A few weeks ago my father came to visit me from Oklahoma and we did all the touristy stuff- we saw the Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, World War II and Vietnam Memorials. It was a Sunday so everyone was out including the thousands of tourists from all corners of the world. After taking a long walking self guided tour from the Vietnam Memorial to the White house (my dad could get a snap shot of the same pose in front of different backdrops), we decided to get a cold treat and sit. While soaking in the shade and zoning out to the foreign passer-bys, a rather large family walked by our bench and I overheard this brief exchange between a mother and her tired wandering son.

Mom: What's wrong honey??

Son: If I was the president, everyone would hate me.

My dad and I looked at one another and laughed. Apparently the kid knew very well that we hate our president. But does he know we just hate Bush and not the office of the presidency? Or do we always dislike the president? And if so, is that why many are so irritated that Obama is popular- like a celebrity?
I think so…. what’s wrong with liking your president?

Why are people so upset with having a president that is popular? Are we used to hating our president??
